When his son Randolph drew his attention to the imminent deportation to Mauritius of 793 illegal refugees intercepted off Palestine, he immediately instructed his officials to allow them to remain there. After he became Prime Minister in 1940, Churchill opposed the prevention of Jewish refugees reaching Palestine, telling the Colonial office that the government had 'to be guided by sentiments of humanity towards those fleeing from the cruellest forms of persecution'. ![]() ![]() From the start of the persecution of the Jews in Germany, Churchill took the Jewish side of supporting a boycott of German goods, writing in 1937 of 'a perfectly legitimate use of their influence throughout the world to bring pressure, economic and financial, to bear upon the governments which persecute them'. ![]()

![]() ![]() throughout the book), overall a satisfying read that I didn't feel a lingering icky feel like I do after reading some of the others out there *cough blood and bone series *cough*. It was suspenseful, a little more Wicca than needed ( it's pretty obv the author practices due to the main character listing off every single ingredient of her spells, and mansplains scratch that wiccasplains her beliefs along with other useless facts on mother goddess, different crystals and their uses, etc, etc., etc. I tend to lean more toward the cusp of more mature YA/Adultįrankly, due to writers' watered-down interpretation of how high school kids are really 5th graders who make up their own jargon nobody reading can relate to.ĭon't get me wrong, this book had all the above but turned those cringeworthy moments into satire-like tools to move the plot forward quickly enough to keep you hanging onto these characters' outcomes. I tend to get annoyed by these YA books, where the heroine runs straight to the killer while whining about how nobody believes her. I honestly don’t know what to make of this novel. It’s a story of a woman’s disintegration as she is invaded by a demonic presence that insinuates itself into her body and mind, slowly and irrevocably supplanting her free will, causing her to engage in increasingly self-destructive behaviors, blowing up her life as it sinks its claws ever-deeper into her mind jeopardizing her marriage, her job, her reputation, and her list of “never have i evers,” leading her helplessly down a violent path…as much as she can recall of it. This is short and anything but sweet, somehow managing to pack a whole lot of creepiness into just under 200 pages. HEY, QUARANTINERS! i wrote another readalong/booklist thing for f(r)iction! this book is on it: The Call Is Coming From Inside You ![]() ![]() ![]() You have three choices when you come up against yellow or red lights: Persist, pivot for a different approach, or surrender. Life also has yellow and red lights-detours, illnesses, failures. ![]() You can “catch” greenlights through luck or earn them through smart living. Or it could be a simple sense of rightness and well-being. A greenlight could take many different forms, such as success, prosperity, meeting the love of your life, or witnessing the birth of your child. Matthew believes the positive aspects of a person’s life can be explained by the concept of “greenlights.” These are events that let you know your life is on the right track. Part autobiography and part life-guide, Greenlights both explains and illustrates McConaughey’s philosophy of “catching greenlights”-recognizing and even creating those moments when life says “yes” and you cruise into success as you pursue your destiny. The result is this book, which combines hard-earned insights about the art of living with vivid accounts of McConaughey’s upbringing in rural Texas, his adventures in the movie business, his global travels, and his lifelong search for love and fatherhood. As he neared age 50, the Oscar-winning actor revisited the journal that he had kept for the previous 35 years to see what he could learn from it. Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights is not a conventional memoir. ![]() 1-Page Summary 1-Page Book Summary of Greenlights ![]() ![]() ![]() The story is believable and touching and distinguished by the narrator s voice.
